Technical Support for the drafting of the Gambia Health Insurance Bill; and the Establishment of a Gambia National Health Scheme.

LADA’s team was part of a Group of Experts that provided Technical Advice to the NHIS Steering Committee and the three Technical Working Groups respectively responsible for: developing recommendations on the financial structuring of the Scheme and ensuring financial and operational sustainability of the fund for the Scheme; developing recommendations on the benefits package under the Scheme; and drafting the NHIS Bill and suite of NHIS regulations.

 The team also undertook a review of documentation on Health Financing Schemes in the West African sub- region, including Ghana and Gambia, but also in Slovenia and the Republic of Korea; provided lessons learned in drafting the Ghana National Health Insurance Acts and other Acts; and provided strategic advice on the chaperoning the NHIS Bill through all the approval processes, and for passage into law.
